About us

Water is our passion.

Water is in-depth research. Exceptional customer service. And engineering on a grand scale. It’s fatbergs and footprints, wildlife and watersports. It’s daily dippers, doo-doo and deep-dives into data. Water is a world that connects us all. Conservation that starts with conversation. It’s innovation, collaboration and transformation. And it’s unrivalled opportunities for you.

Water is every cup of tea. Every clean pair of socks. Every growing business. And every thriving community. That’s why we love every drop.

Water is 5,000 dedicated people.

There are more than 5,000 of us here at Anglian Water and over 3,000 alliance partners. All of us are passionate about putting water at the heart of a whole new way of living.

We each play a part in supplying water and water recycling services to more than six million domestic customers in the East of England and Hartlepool.

Our population has grown by 20% in the last 20 years, but we still provide the same amount of water now as we did in 1990 – almost 1.2 billion litres every single day.

Who we are

We pride ourselves on everything we deliver, from great customer service, through to regulation and our alliances.

Water Recycling

We collect and treat used water, returning it to the environment via rivers and coastal outlets. Our network includes 76,000 km of sewers which feed over 1,000 water recycling centres. We recycle most of the waste our processes produce, selling the end fertiliser to farmers for example.

What we do

Water is end-to-end challenges.

We borrow water from the environment, clean it to the highest standards, store it safely, deliver it to millions of homes, and carefully manage it to ensure it never runs out.

About a billion litres of used water is flushed and poured into our sewers each day. 76,355 km of pipes deliver it to over 1,000 water recycling works where – with the help of a few billion friendly bacteria and micro-organisms – we clean it up before it’s passed back to nature. Our rivers are cleaner than they’ve been for decades.

We treat and make safe the organic solids too – sludge – which is in demand from farmers for use as a soil conditioner called Nutri-Bio.

In the region

Water is vibrant environments.

There’s a growing role for us too in the wider well-being of the region, with millions of visitors annually enjoying the open spaces, exhilarating outdoor pursuits and flourishing wildlife habitats our water parks and reservoirs have to offer.

Finally, we play a leading and vital part in protecting the biodiversity of our region’s distinctive environment, with a special responsibility for the health not only of people, but of the environment where we all live and work.

Inclusion

Water is for everyone.

Welcome to a company that values different. We go out of our way to find people from all walks of life – people with refreshing ideas and a shared passion for managing and delivering water.

Our Inclusion strategy has been built around four core elements which are integrated into everything we do:

Diverse demographics

Inclusion

Individual action

Leadership

Ex-military

Water is a fresh challenge.

The skills of people who’ve served in the Armed Forces are a huge asset when it comes to the great engineering challenge of maintaining and improving the vast network of pipes, sewers, pumping stations and treatment works. That’s why we highly value former military personnel and reservists.

In the past year alone, more than 40 former service men and women have joined us in a variety of roles including Customer Service Advisors, Plant and Network Engineers, Renewable Energy Managers and Tanker Drivers.

Our roles are often advertised through the Ministry of Defence’s Career Transition Partnership (CTP) and we regularly attend the CTP’s employment fairs throughout our region.

Our commitment

Water is responsibility.

All the water we use is borrowed from nature and we take our responsibility as a custodian of the environment very seriously.

We are continually striving to improve our environmental performance, how we conserve our resources and how we apply best environmental practice.

We’re committed to supporting our communities too. We do that by working responsibly, managing our land for wildlife and recreation, and caring for our employees and their families.

Community engagement

Water is working together.

We’re working to build a sustainable future by making sure the next generation has a real personal belief in the value of water. It’s why we have a community engagement programme, including an educational programme that we deliver at our dedicated centres or through school visits.
