When I was at college, I studied Heating and Plumbing. I really enjoyed the hands-on experience of taking things apart and putting it back together. Once I qualified, I looked at the biggest employers in my locality and Anglian Water came up. Having applied to a few places, I thought that Anglian Water’s response was the best as I could tell that they valued their employees by the way they communicated with me.

 

I have now been at Anglian Water for over ten years. I joined on an 18-month apprenticeship as a Network Technician. Since then, I have found myself working on many projects over the years, including; working on the meter replacement project; on several technology-based improvements projects; as a Network Service Support Manager; and as a Stakeholder Facilitator. I’ve also had training with the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and gained Professional Registration with the Institute of Water (EngTech TMIWater). Over the years, I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by fantastic colleagues and supportive managers.

 

For the last two years, I’ve been working as a Training and Development Manager, directly supporting our frontline operational teams by helping them to develop their people into highly knowledgeable and trained operatives. I achieve this by creating new training packages, delivering virtual and classroom training, and engaging stakeholders to achieve our business objectives.

 

My work environment is dynamic; no two days are the same! I have the autonomy to be creative and find my own ways to share knowledge with colleagues.

 

My experience has been great. Even when dealing with difficult experiences, I have always had the support of good managers around me.

 

To me, Anglian Water is a very exciting place to work. I like the focus on inclusion, the environment and “Doing the right thing”. I also like all of the bespoke benefits which allow me to tailor them to suit me and my family’s needs. I love working with water, and it’s never going out of fashion! “I’m responsible for ensuring that we have a clear and accurate investment plan for a whole host of change, from innovative IT transformations and electric vehicles through to parks and conservation maintenance.

I go home with a real sense of pride that we’re contributing towards providing a fundamental life-need to our customers.

“I joined Anglian Water because it was a great progression opportunity – I’m now managing my own team within occupational health. Day-to-day, I could be doing anything from developing a new business-wide wellbeing strategy to overseeing the support of employees returning to work following illness.

My biggest challenge is probably increasing the awareness of the great occupational health and wellbeing tools on offer. We have fantastic Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) and a private healthcare scheme, as well as access to physiotherapists and virtual GPs.

We’re big on innovation too. In fact, we recently introduced more ways to keep healthy at work such as cycle desks, bibliotherapy and mindfulness exercises.
