Making a Difference in our Communities

Inspiring Future Generations with Education

We understand that education starts early, and we’re passionate about inspiring young minds to care for our environment. Our dedicated Education Team works across a wide range of learning settings, from primary schools to higher education institutions and home learners.

In targeted areas, our Education Team can offer face-to-face workshop and event-based workshops. Across the Anglian Water region they offer virtual sessions for primary schools and a variety of online self-delivery lesson plans and resource packs for teachers.

Our sessions help students explore our vital role in protecting the environment, the importance of water management, and the impact of climate change on our region. We also aim to drive positive behaviour change within communities by raising awareness of water efficiency, pollution prevention, and other key environmental issues.

We’re also committed to promoting STEM careers to all ages, showcasing the exciting opportunities available in the water industry. By engaging with young people early, we hope to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and environmental leaders.

When you join us, you’ll have the opportunity to share your passion and expertise with the next generation. We give employees the opportunity to volunteer as STEM Ambassadors, take part in career events, job fairs, and school sessions, helping to inspire people and showcase the variety of careers in the water industry.

Community Engagement

We want to connect with our customers through events, workshops, and partnerships that help them understand the vital role they play in protecting our water resources and the environment.

Engaging with Our Customers

We actively engage with communities across the region, keeping customers informed about the work happening in their area and how it benefits them. Whether it’s discussing local projects, providing tips on saving water, or raising awareness about the water cycle, we make sure our conversations are meaningful and impactful.

Through our engagement efforts, we:

  • Provide practical tools and tips to help customers reduce their water use, prevent blockages, and protect their local environment.
  • Target specific areas where water-saving or blockage prevention is a priority, such as regions prone to drought or wastewater issues, ensuring our messages have maximum impact.
  • Tailor our approach to different customer groups, including families with young children, new homeowners, gardeners, and carers, so that our advice is relevant and actionable.

The Customer Engagement Hub

Each year, we take our Customer Engagement Hub to events across the region, offering face-to-face interactions that bring our purpose to life. We talk with thousands of customers, sharing expert advice on water efficiency, responsible water use, and how they can help keep their water systems running smoothly.

Our Hub is made even more powerful by the amazing volunteers from across the business who join us to engage with the community. Their knowledge and passion help create meaningful conversations that leave a lasting impression on customers.

As an employee you will have the opportunity to volunteer and be part of these important conversations. No matter your role, your insights can make a real difference.

Volunteering

We’re committed to making a positive impact on the environment and the communities we serve. As a purpose-led organisation, we encourage our employees to get involved in meaningful volunteering opportunities, helping to tackle some of our region’s greatest environmental and social challenges.

Through our Love to Help programme, employees can volunteer during company hours, supporting a range of organisations and initiatives. Our Match Time scheme goes even further, matching up to 30 hours of personal volunteering time with paid work hours, allowing you to do even more to give back. Additionally, every employee is offered one paid day per year to take part in a volunteering activity, either individually or as part of a team.

We encourage employees to fundraise locally through events like quizzes, raffles, and curry nights or volunteer at major events such as the Annual Ball, Golf Day, and Race Night. Opportunities also include serving on the WaterAid committee or becoming a WaterAid speaker, sharing their mission with schools, churches, and community groups.

Water Parks

Our seven water parks, including Rutland, Grafham, and Pitsford, cover 4,428 hectares of parkland, woodlands, and nature reserves, welcoming over 2 million visitors a year. These parks offer fantastic outdoor activities like fishing, sailing, walking, cycling, and wildlife watching. Volunteers play a vital role in maintaining these spaces, with regular volunteer groups offering employees opportunities to get involved and help our water parks thrive.

Employees are invited to volunteer to become community ambassadors. Our Community Ambassadors play a vital role in engaging with local groups, delivering free, interactive talks on key topics such as climate change, biodiversity, and water conservation. These sessions not only educate but also provide valuable insights and feedback that feed directly into our business.

Ambassadors are equipped with interactive presentations, tailored to each group’s time allowance, featuring built-in voting systems to capture audience opinions.
