Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB)

Who are MMB and What brought them into the @one Alliance?

MMB is a UK-based fully-integrated design and build organisation comprising civil engineering contracting experience from JN Bentley, and global engineering, management and development consultancy expertise from Mott MacDonald.

Established in 1999, MMB was created specifically to deliver long-term, high-volume capital programmes for the UK water sector and have been an Alliance partner organisation since 2015.

MMB brings over 25 years of experience as a design and build organisation to the Alliance with integrated frameworks and programmes across the country. For each client, their processes and models adapt to allow for seamless communication and efficient delivery.

Having been a partner since 2015, for MMB the draw came not just from the scale and ambition of Anglian Water’s capital works programme, but the chance to contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Particularly appealing was the Alliance’s emphasis on early contractor involvement, digital delivery and collaborative planning, which aligns perfectly with MMB’s strengths in design and build.

Joining @one gave MMB the chance to work alongside like-minded partners, share best practice and help shape industry-leading approaches to project delivery. It also provides a platform to develop its people, invest in new technologies and make a meaningful impact on Anglian Water’s communities.

Our Values and Purpose

While everyone working in the @one Alliance works towards Anglian Water’s purpose and values, each partner organisation employee’s also benefit from the aligned values our partners bring to the Alliance.

For Mott MacDonald Bentley it’s believing that because they care about what they do, they do things better. It’s about making a sustainable, positive difference – not just for clients and customers but for communities and the environment.

It’s purpose is clear – ‘To improve society by making it stronger, greener and healthier.’ They embed this purpose into every decision they make, by considering social outcomes at every stage of work – from design and planning to delivery and legacy.

All of these values align perfectly with our @one and Anglian Water purpose: “To bring environmental and social prosperity to the region we serve through our commitment to love every drop.”

“We believe that because we care about what we do, we do things better. It means our people make sustainable positive differences to our clients, their customers, our communities, and the environment by delivering projects that we’re proud of. We are pleased to be working with Anglian Water to deliver an essential service while investing in the local communities and economy. Our company purpose is to improve society making it stronger, greener and healthier – by considering social outcomes in everything that we do.”Paul Bentley, Director.

What have MMB been working on?

Every Alliance partner contributes towards to forward momentum of the Alliance and MMB have recently led a company-wide roll out of a new High Energy Hazards Framework.

This new safety initiative, delivered across all MMB teams, including those that work for Anglian Water and the @one Alliance focuses on five key hazard types – gravity, plant, pressure, electrical and mechanical – and sets out clear, practical controls to prevent life threatening incidents.

Delivered via mandatory toolbox talks, structured training sessions and digital attendance tracking the framework promotes the use of direct controls (eliminate, reduce, isolate) and where necessary secondary controls (barriers, monitoring, reminders) to ensure robust, fail-safe protection.

This proactive approach highlights how MMB contributes to the Alliance with it’s leadership in safety innovation and it’s commitment to embedding a culture of risk awareness and prevention across its teams – even those outside of its own organisation.
