Discover Your Future with a Practical Apprenticeship

At Anglian Water, our practical apprenticeships are based in the operational areas of the business – perfect for those who enjoy being hands-on, getting stuck in, and helping to keep our essential services flowing.

Whether you’re helping to treat wastewater, produce clean drinking water, restoring water to a customer’s home or maintaining vital infrastructure, you’ll be part of a team that makes a real difference every day.

You’ll earn while you learn, gaining a valuable Level 3 qualification and experience in a supportive, inclusive environment.

So, if you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, learn new skills, and help shape a sustainable future, a practical apprenticeship with Anglian Water could be the perfect place to start.

We’ll be open for applications in January 2026 – so watch this space!

Two Pathways. One Purpose.

2-Year Apprenticeships

Perfect if you’re ready to dive into a practical role and start making an impact quickly. 2026 opportunities include:

  • Water Supply Apprentice – playing a key role to help make sure water is clean, safe and reliable for our customers and communities.
  • Water Recycling Treatment Apprentice – ensuring our wastewater is safely cleaned, recycled and returned back to the environment.

These roles are ideal for people who enjoy hands-on work, problem-solving, safety-conscious, and take pride in doing things the right way, helping us maintain high standards and protect the environment.

You’ll spend one week each month at college in Peterborough, where you’ll build your technical knowledge in a supportive learning environment. The rest of the time, you’ll be out in the field gaining hands-on experience alongside your team, applying what you’ve learned in real-world situations. You’ll also receive at least six hours of off-the-job training each week to support your development. The programme takes around 24 months to complete, setting you up with the skills, confidence, and qualifications to thrive in your career.

4-Year Apprenticeships

If you’re looking to build deeper technical expertise, our 4-year programmes are for you. 2026 opportunities include:

  • Water Recycling Mechanical & Electrical Technician Apprentice
  • Clean Water Asset Technician Apprentice
  • Water Recycling Bioresources Maintenance Technician Apprentice
  • Operational Technology Field Engineer Apprentice

These programmes are perfect for those who are curious about how things work, love engineering, and want to play a key role in keeping our systems running smoothly.

Your time as an apprentice will be split between classroom learning and hands-on experience. You’ll attend Grantham College on a block release schedule — spending Monday to Thursday there for two weeks at a time, which works out to around eight college days each month. The rest of your time will be spent learning on the job, applying your knowledge in real-world situations and gaining practical experience alongside your team. You’ll also benefit from a minimum of six hours per week of off-the-job training to support your development. The course typically takes four years to complete, and we’ll cover your travel costs to and from college in line with our expenses policy — because we’re committed to making your journey as smooth as possible.
