Skanska

Who are Skanska?

Skanska is a leading global construction and development company, founded in Sweden in 1887 as a concrete maker the company has grown and expanded across the world – entering the UK construction industry at the turn of the millennium.

Since then, Skanska have been involved in some of the UK’s most recognisable infrastructure, including London’s iconic Gherkin.

Closer to home, in the Anglian Water region, Skanska are currently delivering the £1bn upgrade to the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbett interchange.

What brought Skanska into the @one Alliance?

A partner in the Alliance since its inception in 2005, Skanska were drawn to the Alliance by the opportunity for close collaboration with the other Alliance partners – giving them a unique opportunity to deliver large, complex water infrastructure projects across multiple Asset Management Period (AMP) cycles.

“We have a 20-plus year relationship with Anglian Water, which includes our role as an original member of the @one Alliance. Working alongside our @one Alliance partners, we are proud to have played our part in creating a collaborative working culture that has enabled us to set industry leading delivery standards. – Andrew English, Managing Director Skanska Infrastructure

Values and Purpose

Skanska believes in building a better society by prioritising safety, sustainability and ethical behaviours in every project. They believe the way to do this is through their core values which filter through to every level of the organisation including: care for lifedoing the right thing, and pursuing excellence

These values meld perfectly with the values and purpose set out by Anglian Water and adopted by all @one Alliance colleagues to do the right thing, be always exploring and to build trust in our pursuit to bring environmental and social prosperity to the region we serve through our commitment to love every drop.

What have Skanska been working on?

Skanska have made major contributions to how we deliver projects across the Alliance, including support for major treatment works and recycling centres such as the state-of-the-art ultrafiltration system at Heigham Water Treatment Works.

But it doesn’t stop there – Skanska have also pioneered the IFE (Injury-Free Environment) programme, which was adopted and adapted by the Alliance into our LIFE (Living in an Injury-Free Environment) programme – which has redefined how safety is seen and implemented across our office spaces and teams on site.

For Skanska, it’s all about scale – being able to combine deep technical excellence across complex civil works by using a collaborative mindset and strong safety culture, Skanska transforms learnings from the Alliance, including digital innovation, carbon reduction and safety into repeatable, scalable projects that add real value to the Alliance and its AMP8 programme.

“We are now very much looking forward to AMP8, developing innovative ways of working that continue to improve safety and drive down cost and carbon – delivering schemes that meet the needs of our climate, leaving a lasting legacy for society.” – Andrew English, Managing Director, Skanska Infrastructure.
