I chose to join Anglian Water because I wanted more than just a job. I wanted purpose, growth, and to be part of something truly meaningful. As a Black man, I was also seeking inclusion and a sense of belonging within an organisation that not only recognises the challenges I might face but actively puts systems in place to address them. From my very first day on the Graduate Programme, I felt welcomed, supported, and inspired.

Throughout the programme, I had the opportunity to work across various incredible teams across the business. Each placement stretched me in new and exciting ways, and I was given the chance to learn from some of the most passionate and knowledgeable people I’ve ever met.

One of the biggest highlights for me has been the people. I’ve had mentors who believed in me, leaders who challenged me to grow, and teammates who made every challenge feel like a shared win. I’ve learned to navigate complexity, build strong relationships, and turn operational risks into meaningful opportunities.

Today, I’m proud to say I work as a Water Assurance Partner within Tactical Operations, a role I genuinely love and felt ready for, thanks to the solid foundation the graduate scheme gave me. To anyone thinking about applying: go for it.

This is more than a graduate job, it’s a launchpad for your career, a place to make real impact, and a space where your potential is not just recognised but empowered.

I chose to apply for Anglian Water after completing my degree in Human Geography because I wanted a career where I could help contribute to sustainability goals. Since starting the scheme last year, I’ve completed various rotations including Solutions, Enabling, and Site Delivery, each giving me a different perspective on how projects are developed and delivered.

One of the things I have enjoyed most is the variety, with each placement introducing me to new teams, challenges and ways of working, which have all helped in building a broader understanding of the business.

Alongside my role as a Graduate Project Manager, I’ve also had the opportunity to get involved in initiatives and projects outside of my day-to-day responsibilities, allowing me to broaden my experience and develop further skills. The graduate scheme has been a fantastic start to my career, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone!

I chose to apply to Anglian Water because, as a passionate geographer and environmentalist, I strongly connected with the company’s sustainability and climate change ambitions. What I value most about the scheme is the opportunity to explore parts of the business I never knew existed. The scheme supports both professional and personal growth, and I’ve developed my soft skills, technical understanding, and industry knowledge far beyond what I expected.

The graduate scheme stood out to me for its flexibility, offering the freedom to explore different areas of the business while ensuring I developed the right skills. Hearing positive feedback from previous graduates, and knowing many have built long-term careers here, made the opportunity even more appealing.

So far, I’ve completed two placements, each lasting around three months. I’ve worked in the Bioresources and Water Recycling business areas, as well as the Asset Information and Performance team. Despite only being in the business for 11 months, I’ve already been able to apply knowledge and skills from one area to another—something that’s only possible because of the scheme’s design. I couldn’t recommend Anglian Water enough.

If you’re driven by purpose, and want to work in an environment that invests in your personal and professional development – then Anglian Water is the place to be! The graduate programme gives you broad exposure to a water company’s operations and allows you to build a wide network of connections. It’s the best foundation you can lay for a successful career in the water industry.

Through graduate placements with different teams across the business, I built a large network of colleagues and a clear understanding of how the business operates, as well as how teams interconnect. This experience has been invaluable for my current role as an Engagement Manager involves collaborating across many areas of the business and working with a wide range of stakeholders – so I’ve had the advantage of quickly identifying risks, opportunities for collaboration and stakeholder needs from day one.

I’ve felt championed by the business to explore new opportunities as they come! My role is very autonomous, I manage my own workload and I’ve felt trusted to deliver – which is very motivating to me. I also have the freedom to work on extra-curricular activities which enriches me both personally and professionally.

Since completing the graduate programme I have done a few different roles. I’ve recently started a permanent position as a Supply Support Manager. I’m really enjoying the role, particularly because of the variety of tasks I complete during a typical day, with everyday being slightly different which I really like.

The programme prepared me in many ways for my career journey, with the main benefit being I was well equipped for quickly adapting to working with new teams, through multiple placements with different responsibilities. I’ve also made a lot of connections with people from across the business and this has been hugely beneficial throughout my career. The training and development you receive on the graduate programme, along with the skills picked up within placements, has given me a head start in new roles. I’ve gained a lot of the skills, whether that’s using specific platforms or writing certain documents, to be able to get stuck in straight away.

The culture I’ve experienced during my time at Anglian Water has been hugely friendly and supportive. Everyone has always been willing to give up their time to talk through what they’re working on with me, answer any questions I’ve had and get me involved where they can, and make me feel welcome into their team.

The advice I’d give someone considering applying to the programme is to go for it if you’re looking for an exciting, fast-paced and varied role where you get to experience new things everyday within a really supportive community.

The graduate programme has been a fantastic opportunity to develop my skills and gain exposure to different areas of the business. Over the past year, I have been shadowing P scheme delivery and have also taken the lead on delivering one of my own schemes! Alongside this, I have completed rotations in Site, Commercial, Planning, and Design, giving me a broad understanding of how different teams work together to deliver projects successfully.

The thing I enjoy most about the programme is the balance between support and responsibility. I have been given valuable learning opportunities and trusted to take ownership of real work, while still being supported when I need guidance. Being pushed outside of my comfort zone has helped me grow in confidence, and I’ve been able to learn from mistakes in a safe and supportive environment.

The culture has been excellent throughout. I’ve felt trusted and encouraged to take on new challenges, helping me build confidence in my abilities. At the same time, support is always available whenever I have questions or need help overcoming a challenge.

My biggest piece of advice for anyone considering the programme is to embrace every opportunity to learn. The graduate programme is designed to expose you to different parts of the business, expand your network, and develop your confidence. Be curious, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone!
